George Harrison
This Fender George Harrison 1967 Bass VI model comes in a bleached 3-Color Sunburst Relic lacquer finish. Fender has attempted to recreate this model as close as possible to Harrison’s original instrument, including the neck profile.
It also has the era-correct bound 3A rosewood fretboard with block inlays, the etched control plate markings taken from Harrison’s own Bass VI, and a set of Custom Shop hand-wound Jaguar pickups.
Custom Shop 1967 Bass VI Recreation
This is a limited edition, with only 80 Bass VI models, all based on the 1967 model that George Harrison played with The Beatles. It was at a time when they were experimenting with their sound, and the Bass VI offered some new ways of approaching the bass as a guitarist.
“George Harrison’s Bass VI holds a unique place in Fender history. It played a defining role in some of the most influential recordings ever made while showcasing the remarkable versatility of the Bass VI itself,”
“With this Limited Edition release, our Custom Shop team has faithfully recreated George’s original instrument with extraordinary attention to detail, honoring its legacy and giving players and collectors the opportunity to own an extraordinary piece of music history.” – Chase Paul, Director of Fender Custom Shop
It has a two-piece alder body, a maple neck, and an AAA rosewood fretboard, all of which are typical specifications for a Bass VI.
Who is it for?
This model is aimed at Beatles/George Harrison fans as well as anyone who collects limited-run Fender Custom Shop models. It is priced higher than an original Fender 1967 Bass VI, so that tells me this one is really a collectors guitar/bass.
If you love limited editions and don’t mind paying more for a modern recreation, then this one is for you.
