Fender has announced a new USA George Harrison Rosewood Telecaster. This time, the all-rosewood model comes with a somewhat lighter chambered body. The guitar is based on the original owned by Harrison that was built by luthier Roger Rossmeisl. This new model boasts a chambered rosewood body, a rosewood neck and fingerboard, and a custom neck plate engraved with an Om symbol.

We have seen a few Fender George Harrison Rosewood Telecaster models over the years, with Custom Shop versions as well as an all-rosewood Japanese Telecaster. This new, USA made version, features a chambered rosewood body which should make it a lot lighter compared to the original, as that was all solid rosewood .

Om

It also has a rosewood neck with a modern 9.5” radius, like Harrison’s original, with medium-jumbo frets. The combination of the radius and frets should make it easy to play. Plus, you get a custom-stamped George Harrison “Om” logo on the neck plate, to let you know it’s a bit special. Hardware consists of a standard three saddle bridge, with threaded steel saddles and a set of period correct ‘F’ stamped vintage tuners.

Pure Vintage

Overall, it looks like a nice take on the classic George Harrison model. And if you like that sort of thing, then it could be for you. The pickups are a set of Fender Pure Vintage ’64 Gray-Bottom Single-Coil Tele neck pickup and a Pure Vintage ’64 Gray-Bottom Single-Coil Tele bridge pickup. These are wired via a traditional Tele control layout of volume, tone, and three-way pickup selector switch. So it should sound similar to the original as well.

A shame Fender sells the Fender Rosewood Telecaster in the name of George Harrison. George Harrison called the Rosewood Telecaster ” The worst guitar I have ever played” in several interviews. He used it 2 weeks because Paul McCartney thought it would sound Good on Let it be, making it the least used Beatle guitar of them all. Then George immidiately gave it away to Delany Bramlet. 2 years after Georges death Olivia buys the guitar George called ” the worst guitar I have ever played”. Olivia has made many decisions after Georges death that has been against hus wishes. Then she lets Fender produce it to earn extra money. A horrible shame and an insikt to George Who never again in his career was seen with a Telecaster.
Fender really made a bad decision here as Georges favourite guitar from 1957 untill he died was the Fender Stratocaster. 80 % of the Beatles songs are rekordet with a Stratocaster. So knowing George hated that Rosewood Telecaster just shows bad taste from both Fender and Olivia Harrison.
