The Fender ’62 Deluxe is a reissue of the amp series that bridged the gap between the iconic Tweed amps of the 1950s and the legendary Fender reverb amps of the mid-1960s. In terms of sound, the Brown Panel amps are considered among the most versatile from Fender’s golden age.

Fender ’62 Deluxe: Back in Brown

Regardless of the turmoil at Fender or the CEO changeup at Gibson, the surest way to make money in the world of electric guitars is still with gear that pays homage to the golden era spanning the early 1950s to the mid-1960s. Fender and Gibson know this all too well.

Besides all the buzz surrounding the recent Telecaster and Precision Bass anniversaries, Fender is also highlighting this legendary amp series. Most of the original brown panel amps, which came out between the Tweed amps of the 1950s and the Black panels of the mid-1960s, had previously been available only at collector’s prices.

With the Fender ’62 Deluxe, Fender is now showing a premium reissue of the brown panels that stays true to the original in many details, not least in its versatile sound.

Two channels, 20 watts, 12-inch speaker

The Fender ’62 Deluxe amp offers 20 watts of power, two channels (Normal and Bright), and a 12-inch Celestion custom-designed speaker. It’s all tube power inside. Three 12AX7 tubes light up the preamp, two 6L6 tubes drive the power amp, and a GZ34 serves as the rectifier tube.

Overall, this iteration may have slightly less power than its big brother, the ’62 Super Amp reissue, but it should still deliver those endlessly beautiful clean tones that only Fender amps can produce. Whether in a rehearsal room, on a small stage, or in a collector’s basement, this amp really holds its own.

Normal and Bright

Both voicings, Normal and Bright, feature separate controls for volume and tone, and for effects, the amp comes with a tube-driven tremolo. With Speed, you set the tremolo’s speed, and with Intensity, you control how pronounced it is.

If you’re a fan of tube-bias tremolo effects, you’ll definitely get your money’s worth here. By the way, you can switch between the two channels using the included footswitch.

How much does the Fender ’62 Deluxe Amp cost?

A Deluxe amp comes with a deluxe price tag. With so many tubes and being a reissue, it naturally falls into the category of gear for professionals, enthusiasts, and collectors. But it also looks absolutely amazing.

The Fender ’62 Deluxe Amp costs 1,829 euros at Thomann*.
