Duesenberg’s The Falken model features a new solidbody shape from the company. The guitar has a reverse body shape with hints of many classic vintage designs, including Gretsch, but with modern hardware choices that are sure to make it a fantastic player.

The new The Falken model from Duesenberg comes loaded with a set of two Split/King pickups which are capable of producing real single-coil and humbucker tones. You can select these two modes via the switches on the lower bout of the brushed aluminium pickguard. The way those switches are recessed is a really nice touch in my opinion.

Controls for the pickups include a single volume and tone, plus a three-way pickup selector, and those two pickup mode switches on the pickguard. So plenty of tonal options at your fingertips.

Construction

The Falken has an alder body and a maple neck. I suspect the reverse body shape will be either a love-it-or-loathe-it affair, though I am firmly in the love it camp myself. The neck has a Medium D profile and comes with an Indian rosewood fretboard and 22 jumbo frets. The larger fret wire choice should help with easy vibrato and bends. The necks have also received a Plek treatment which should guarantee no dead spots and great fretwork.

Hardware

You get two bridge options with the model. You can opt either for a Wrapper Stop-Tailpiece or the Radiator Tremola vibrato system. All the hardware is nickel and works perfectly with the “none more black” finish of The Falken, especially with that subtle cream binding around the neck and body. This guitar certainly has style.

Reverse Style

Overall, I really like the look of this new model, and if it sounds as good as it looks, then it could be a real winner for Duesenberg in 2021. With its vintage vibe and stylish appointments, I can see it being popular with players looking for a more refined looking instrument with plenty of character.
