D’Angelico launches new Bob Weir Premier Bedford – for all those Deadheads on a budget!

D’Angelico has just released a new Bob Weir Premier Bedford signature, an affordable version of the Deluxe model launched last year. As Bob says himself – “Good instruments shouldn’t just be for elite folks.”

D’Angelico and the Grateful Dead guitarist have teamed up for a new signature model, aimed at players on a limited budget. The new Bob Weir Premier Bedford model is priced at $999, which is a steal compared to the Deluxe versions from 2019, as it is half the price of that model. The guitarist hopes that it is a great tool, giving musicians all the tones they need without causing a significant dent in their wallets.

Grateful Tone
The new budget Bob Weir Premier Bedford comes factory-fitted with a pair of Seymour Duncan Designed P-90 single coils ‘soapbar’ bridge and neck pickups, and an SC-101 single-coil in the middle position. These are wired via a five-way blade selector and a blender pot that blends the neck and bridge pickups to taste.
The guitar has an offset Basswood body and a set-through 24.75″ scale length, C-shape maple neck. The fretboard is Ovangkol, with block inlays and 22 medium frets. The bridge is a vintage-style six-point tremolo.
It comes in a rather fetching Matte Stone finish and has a Pearloid pickguard to match. I like the big block inlays, and the ostentatious headstock looks kind of funky, too.
The guitar comes with a gigbag.
Good instruments shouldn’t just be for elite folks
In the official video, Bob mentions how as a young and upcoming musician, he couldn’t afford the better quality guitars. As he himself says in the video – “Good instruments shouldn’t just be for elite folks.”. However, the old hippy seems pretty happy with this instrument and hopes that it will inspire players who can’t afford the upper shelf models. You can check the rest of the video out below.
