D’Angelico Guitars has just announced limited edition versions of its small-bodied semi-hollow Mini DC models. The new Deluxe Mini DC LE models will be joining the company’s Deluxe series of instruments, and come with some nice hardware and colour choices. But with only 150 models avilable worldwide, they might not be around for long.
D’Angelico Guitars Deluxe Mini DC
The D’Angelico Guitars Deluxe Mini DC models are full-scale guitars with a scale length of 24.75″, but with a smaller semi-hollow form factor. The undersized maple body uses a lightweight centre block for sustain, and is paired with a three-piece maple/walnut neck with a slim C-shaped profile. This is then fitted with a nice ebony fretboard and 22 medium jumbo frets, a Tusq nut, and some fancy mother of pearl/abalone split-block inlays. The back of the guitar neck has a nice matte finish, which should feel smooth and help with any drag whilst playing.
Seymour Duncan Seth Lover
Each model comes fitted with a pair of Seymour Duncan Seth Lover A4 humbucking pickups. These new Alnico 4 pickups do sound particularly good in the demo video and give the guitar a very rich warm tone. The pickups are wired via two volume knobs and two coil-splitting push/pull tone knobs, and a three-way toggle switch.
Elsewhere hardware includes a set of Grover locking tuners, a standard tune-o-matic bridge and a D’angelico Stairstep tailpiece, which, along with that Tusq nut, should provide rock-solid tuning stability. Colours on offer are Matte Charcoal, Matte Walnut, and Matte Surf Green, with only 50 of each being made.
It is a pity this is a limited run as they are certainly nice guitars. But you never know, maybe this model will eventually find a permanent spot in the D’Angelico Deluxe range. Overall, I am pretty impressed with the new Deluxe Mini DC and think it sounds great.
