Dopesonix has been running the Beat Machine for near a decade. Presently, the beatmaking-oriented rompler has matured to version 3 and become inclusive of a greater variety of styles. Whatever niche electronica you might be into, chances are you will find something usable!
Dopesonix Beat Machine 3
Beat Machine 3 contains 300 drum kits and 300 MIDI patterns to start things off. The factory content covers Trap, Drill, LoFi, Boom Bap, Rock, EDM, House, DnB and all sorts of styles in-between. The audio is organized in categories like Boom Bap (crunchy MPC-style percussion), Breaks (live drum breaks straight off the turntable), an all-encompassing EDM category (tech House, Future Bass, DnB, Dubstep, Afrobeats, UK Garage, old-school disco), and Weird (the glitchy and experimental).
The sounds can be changed up using pitch, pan, and gain controls alongside the built-in reverb and HP/LP filters. Beat Machine 3 is content-rich but uncomplicated, therefore it’s light on CPU and plenty fast with patch loading. It also has both Stereo and Multi-Out routing options to sequence and record as you see fit. MIDI input is also supported – as you can imagine, romplers pair quite nicely with pad and keyboard controllers, and this one is no exception.
All in all, Beat Machine 3 is a workhorse that’s also priced quite affordably. I think Dopesonix understands beatmakers very well and throws them a seriously crunchy bone accordingly. That’s something to be commended!
Price and availability
Beat Machine 3 is available now from Dopesonix dealer Plugin Boutique (affiliate link) for EUR 34.5. I’m pretty sure this is deal/dealer discount pricing because Dopesonix asks USD 80 on their website. The plug-in works under Windows (XP through 11, 32 / 64-bit) and macOS (10.4 or later, 64-bit) in VST and AU formats. The installation takes up 800MB space. You don’t get to try a demo version, though. But there are plenty of samples to audition.
