The Buchla Music Easel has been announced along with the 50th Anniversary Edition. Whether you’re a Buchla fan or not, this is a truly exciting time to have access to such inspirational instruments.
The Music Easel was shown at Knobcon and Superbooth two years ago, so this announcement has certainly had enough time to build anticipation amongst Buchla fans.
This is only the Music Easel’s third production run in 50 years, so it makes absolute sense that the manufacturer would mark the occasion by launching the Anniversary Easel alongside.
Buchla Music Easel
One of the key aspects of the Music Easel’s design is the EMBIO (Electronic Music Box Input/Output) module that not only provides audio summing but also becomes the port of call for the rest of your modular setup.
Sound generation is made possible with Source Model 208C, with its respective complex and modulation oscillators both with switchable waveforms and noise generators.
While the modulation oscillator can function as an additional voice, these sound sources give you a wealth of sonic ingredients for sound creation.
What’s more, there’s a five-stage sequencer, envelope, pulser, and mod source with switchable triggers that provide the means for rhythmic synthesis and building sounds that constantly evolve over time.
Modulation happens via the patch field with a wide range of possible mod sources and the 208C’s mixer also features a spring reverb.
The Anniversary Easel is as authentic as ever, staying true to the design of the original. Instead of the EMBIO module, there’s a simplified I/O section on the left with a retro-styled VU meter.
