Knobcon/Superbooth 2021: New Buchla Music Easel revealed

First seen at Knobcon and now heading to Superbooth Marc Doty was carrying a brand new updated version of the iconic Buchla Music Easel.

I first spotted it on Marc’s Instagram account but I wasn’t able to get any more information until this video arrived from Jade Wii of her day checking out Knobcon. Check it out from around 21.16

What we can gather from the video is that it’s based on the new 208C Easel Command Module. It features a redesigned 218E keyboard that can do more and has an integrated ribbon strip. It has a new Input/Output module that has a variety of utility functions. The module has a little window that can house a number of different things. In the one on show, it has a program manager inside for loading patches without patching – spooky! It comes in a rather smart new case that looks like it would blow up an aeroplane in a 1970s disaster movie. On the left of the keyboard, there’s room for a bit of expansion.

It’s such a unique synthesizer that changing it or upgrading could be a dangerous game but this is looking pretty epic. Hopefully, more details and demos will emerge from Superbooth.
Buchla will be in stand B045 and hopefully, Marc will be bringing his new toy over to show us.
