Behringer brings the classic Moog 1630 Bode Frequency Shifter to Eurorack for some frequency spectrum shifting and harmonic transformations.
Bode Frequency Shifter 1630
The original was released in 1974 and was an intriguing and creative part of the Moog Modular system. It’s designed to take in audio and then shift the frequency spectrum by an amount set on the central dial. It will shift in either direction over a span of +- 5kHz and can be scaled between linear and exponential.
The three control inputs all pile into the shift amount for some interesting summed modulation. The 1630 produces two separate paired outputs. Output A contains the shifted frequency and Output B contains an inverted version of that. You also get a mixed output with a knob to control the balance between A and B.

Behringer adjusts the layout a little bit, but otherwise, it appears to be pretty much identical.
In the demo video, Behringer pans the A and B outputs hard left and right to produce some very interesting stereo imaging. The sound is somewhere between phasing, sync, filtering and detuned beating and is not like anything the description suggests – well, to me, at least. What’s interesting about it is how it shifts the harmonic makeup of the sound rather than the pitch. Those old modular engineers knew what they were doing!
