We’ve seen that Befaco has recently embraced the 1U Euroack scene with the Pony VCO and a handful of utilities already available in the format. In order to make the format more accessible, it makes sense that Befaco would come up with a case for it. It is a bit of a spin on the Intellijel 7U Performance case but with some nice ideas of its own.

The Intellijel 1U format brings in some nice innovations and standardisation. In particular, it’s the internal connections that some modules have that give them access to connections on the back of the case. These are useful for audio mixers, output modules and MIDI-to-CV connections.

The Befaco case has 6 full-sized jack connections that can be used as inputs or outputs, audio or CV depending on what modules they are internally connected to. For instance, the Befaco 1U Out module can connect to a pair of the jacks for full-sized stereo output. There’s also MIDI In, Out and Thru that can make use of Befaco’s forthcoming MIDI Thing 2. You’ll also find a number of USB ports for connecting appropriate modules to controllers or your DAW.

We will build it

You can build the case yourself from a kit if you want which also gives you the opportunity to decide where you want the 1U row. You can have it at the top like the Intellijel, or in the middle like the Make Noise Shared System, or at the bottom. One brilliant feature is that it has VESA-compatible mounting holes which means you can connect it to any monitor stand for a fully articulated positioning experience.

The only thing missing is a handle, but the vibe is more studio than mobile. It also comes with a plastic dust cover that’s big enough to leave your patch intact. You could always then put it in a bag for gigging.

Befaco is also making the “Trolleybus” power supply from the case available separately for €260 assembled or €190 as a kit.

The Befaco 7U Case is 104HP wide and will be available at the end of June for €650 assembled or €550 as a kit.
