Audified U73b Compressor & U78 Saturator get major updates, go on sale
Czech developer and manufacturer Audified has overhauled its U73b Compressor and U78 Saturator effects plug-ins and put them on sale. Through August 8, 2022, the emulations of vintage German hardware from the ’60s are on sale for USD / EUR 79 (down from EUR/USD 149). Audified U73b Compressor
Audified released the first version of its U73b Compressor plug-in way back in 2015. Notably, it brought the sound of an original and very rare U73b unit to DAWs. A second version with improved graphics and circuit modeling was released the following year. Maintenance updates aside, Audified left the plug-in where it was then until the surprise release of version 3 a couple of days ago. It has a brand new user interface alongside improved compatibility. (complete with native M1 support for Macs and recent operating system support). The original control set is also joined by a Comp. amount control to let users adjust the vari-mu stage’s compression effect.
Like most modern emulations, the u73b adds meaningful improvements beyond the original hardware’s capabilities. These include an optional automatic output level control, the ability to switch between vintage and modern characters, external sidechain capabilities, three program-dependent and three fixed-release times.

Audified U78 Saturator
If you want the U73b character with even more control over it (but without the compression), there’s the U78 Saturator plug-in. It offers the modeled saturation stage with the addition of Hi-Pass and Low-Pass filters, and Tone control to dial in the unique tone filter between darker or brighter-sounding coloration. The updated version includes a completely new user interface, as well as improvements to the saturation circuit emulation, and better compatibility.

System requirements
The U73b Compressor and U78 Saturator plug-ins work in 64-bit AAX, AU, and VST3 formats under macOS 10.11 and Windows 7 or later. Both use the free iLok License Manager application for authorization. Demo versions are available from the developer’s website.
