Acustica Audio has released Gold 4, the latest version of the British console channel strip. Besides updating Gold to the new Core 16 engine, they’ve added yet another vintage console equalizer to the suite.
Acustica Audio Gold 4
It hasn’t even been that long since Acustica last updated the Gold suite. Gold 3 came out in December of last year, introducing the Core 14 engine and adding two new EQs. But things are moving quickly at Acustica and they’ve already got a new version ready. In a familiar pattern, the update runs on the latest version of the Acqua engine (Core 16) and adds a new EQ.
According to Acustica, Gold 4 features a new emulation of an “uber-rare vintage EQ” from the 70s. Like the 3081, the 8115 is a Class A/B mic preamp and EQ. It offers three semi-parametric bands and a high pass filter. Acustica says that the extra models were sampled off a console located at Tambourine Studios in Malmö, Sweden, formerly owned by producer Tore Johansson of Cardigans, a-ha and Tom Jones fame.
All in all, Gold 4 now consists of nine equalizers, two compressors and seven preamps. The suite includes individual preamp, EQ and compressor plug-ins, as well as a combined channel strip. This helps to optimize CPU usage if you don’t need the full-blown channel strip all the time. Acustica says that the channel strip offers a complete virtual console emulation and a routing control section for added flexibility.
Like all of Acusticas recent plug-ins, Gold 4 comes in standard and zero-latency versions. The latter are suitable for use during tracking, but require extra processing resources.
