iZotope doubles down on free plug-ins with Vocal Doubler
iZotope surely made many producers’ day by releasing a cutting-edge, professional quality vocal doubling plug-in called Vocal Doubler – for free. Yes, it’s a free plug-in that you can grab anytime from the gracious developer’s website. Only an e-mail is required so you can receive your registration number.
Despite being a free plug-in and a promotional tool for iZotope that will lead many towards checking out the rest of their product line-up, Vocal Doubler rivals any other vocal doubler out there, both free and commercial.
The vocal doubling effect is controlled with an interactive visualisation which lets you drag up and down to control the stereo separation, or drag left or right to emulate the natural variations that are inevitable and result in a richer-sounding vocal.
Below the visualisation, you have percentage meters for the separation and variation effects, as well as the Amount knob to let you dial in how much of the doubling you want mixed with the original signal.
You can also hear the isolated vocal doubling effect, which makes for some interesting possibilities. For example, you can place vocal doubler on multiple tracks with different separation and variation settings, then introduce pitch correction – and, boom, here’s your choir of doubles.
Overall, Vocal Doubler is an excellent surprise from iZotope and a super cool gift from one of the digital audio industry’s biggest names. Respect!
