Milkman Sound Amps new Dairy Air – Add some cream to your rig
Milkman Sound Amps introduced a new Dairy Air 20/40 watt amp head range at this year’s NAMM Show, and is designed to be portable yet powerful enough for all your gigging needs.
The amp uses a lightweight aluminium chassis and comes in either 20W Class AB with 6V6 tubes or 40W Class AB with 6L6 tubes. It’s a simple amp with no reverb or tremolo. It has only basic controls and so should be very easy to get a good core tone with. That’s perfect if you enjoy the no-frills approach to getting your tone. The amp heads are available in either Vanilla or Chocolate tolex and you can order a matching 1 x 12 cabinet from Milkman to go with it.
The Milkman site states that they use Mercury Magnetics transformers, Jupiter capacitors and carbon composition resistors. This is all good quality ‘higher end’ components of the type you’d want in an amp. It means the unit should last well, as this stuff is designed for heavy duty use with no corners cut in terms of quality and should also sound good, as it will have been chosen for its tonal characteristics also. The amp also looks really good and has a very vintage American look to it, which is no bad thing.
The control layout is very simple with just four controls – Volume, Bass, Middle and Treble. Which is often all you need in a good quality valve amp. All the tones I have heard on the demos are very classic American ’50s ‘Fender-ish’, the type of clean that I imagine will take pedals well.
You can also enquire about custom finishes, so if the Vanilla and Chocolate aren’t your thing, then Milkman can make something a little more ‘you’.
