Apple MacBook Pro PROLED XDR Display: The Ultimate Touchscreen Laptop?
A multi-touch MacBook Pro with new OS and Logic Pro optimizations and features.
The Apple MacBook Pro PROLED XDR is the latest and greatest mobile workstation from Apple with an intuitive touchscreen display in 14- and 16-inch options.
Have you been dreaming of producing music with a multi-touch touchscreen laptop? The moment is finally here. Apple has launched its new flagship MacBook Pro with a multi-touch display.
Apple MacBook Pro PROLED XDR Display
The PROLED XDR Display takes a bold step away from the backlit LCD technology used in the previous generation of Apple’s Liquid Retina XDR displays and into the realm of tandem OLED panels with stacked self-illuminating layers. Now this may sound fancy, but the specs speak for themselves with a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio and a peak HDR brightness rating of up to 2,000 nits.
As you’d expect, to accommodate the multi-touch interface functionality, these machines are running an optimized update of macOS Golden Gate. The first thing you notice is that the OS is input-aware, so the interface will shift from a traditional look and feel when you’re using your trackpad to a touch-friendly interface with dynamic buttons and menus that adapt to fingertip navigation.
While reaching the full potential of this intelligent multi-touch interface is likely to be a work in progress, there is an algorithm that instantly translates various finger movements into conventional click commands. Details like browser tabs that move to meet your touch and circular pop-up menus make your experience smoother and more intuitive.
In the larger, 16-inch configuration, the specs go up to an 18-core M5 Pro Max chip with a 40-core GPU and up to 128 GB of unified memory. In other news, Logic Pro has also been updated to accommodate the new touch interface with features like the multi-touch polyphonic keyboard, velocity-sensitive drum pads, touch-friendly chord triggers, and the ability to control multiple faders, knobs, and parameters simultaneously.
Pricing and Availability:
The Apple MacBook Pro PROLED XDR Display is currently available for pre-order starting at $2,899 for the 14-inch and $3,399 for the 16-inch base configurations, shipping this November.
