Xiphonics picoTracker Advance: The Pocket-Sized Tracker Sequencer Is All Grown-Up Now
The new Xiphonics picoTracker Advance is a pocket-sized sampler and tracker sequencer that looks like heaps of fun. The coolest way to make beats on the go?
Xiphonics picoTracker Advance
Up until now, the picoTracker was a quirky DIY project that quickly gained a lot of fans with its intuitive workflow. The new picoTracker Advance builds on the predecessor, but has been much improved and refined both in terms of hardware and software. The sleek aluminium housing is just the beginning: the picoTracker Advance has more power, more memory, and all-around more of everything.
Even at first glance, you can tell that this is no longer a DIY project. The hardware has been completely overhauled and has a much more professional look and feel to it. The larger housing provides enough space for a bigger 4” screen. They even managed to squeeze in a built-in speaker.

The picoTracker Advance offers eight monophonic tracks for tracker-style beatmaking. Tracks can control the internal samples or external MIDI instruments. The new version has 48 MB of internal memory, expandable with an SD card.
There’s also now a line input and even a built-in microphone, so you can capture your own samples. Fantastic! The new firmware comes with lots of new features for sample editing and slicing, including a handy waveform view.

On the back, you’ll find a USB-C port and four 1/8” TRS jacks for audio in/out and MIDI in/out. The device is powered by a built-in rechargeable battery, which lasts for about six hours on a single charge.
