Martin Super D-18 and Super HD-28: If Dreadnought just isn’t big enough for you
Increased body sized for even louder acoustic guitars!

Martin is expanding its legendary Dreadnought family for 2026 with two new Super models: the Martin Super D-18 and the Martin Super HD-28. Both retain the iconic styling cues of the classics, but pack noticeably more volume and projection into the body.
What’s special about the Super models?
The Super Series is based on a new Super D body shape, which offers around 20% more internal volume than a standard dreadnought. The increased resonance volume is said to result in significantly stronger bass reproduction, higher volume, and greater dynamics. According to Martin, tests compared to standard models measured up to 12 dB higher volume.

Unlike more exotic body shapes, the Super design retains the classic dreadnought silhouette while incorporating a subtly larger resonance chamber in both width and depth. Martin also uses forward-shifted Golden Era scalloped X-bracing, which greatly improves response and projection.
What is so special about the Martin Super D-18?
The Martin Super D-18 continues the classic D-18 concept by pairing a spruce top with a solid mahogany body in the new Super D design. This combination is intended to create the legendary warm, clear sound of the D-18 and add more depth and foundation without producing the muddiness or uncontrolled bass that can quickly occur with larger bodies.

Compared to the standard D-18, the Super version should deliver significantly more substance and projection, especially with open chords, low pitches, and rhythmic strumming.
How does the Super HD-28 differ from the Super D-18?
The Super HD-28 pairs the extended Super D design with the classic spruce-top, solid East Indian rosewood back and sides. This combination is known for delivering particularly complex overtones, rich bass tones, and distinctive projection. And the even larger body provides more of everything.

The Super HD-28 retains traditional Style 28 hallmarks, such as herringbone binding and an ebony fretboard, but significantly increases resonance and volume beyond those of a standard HD-28.
Players who perform in larger rooms without amplification will notice the difference: the more powerful bass remains controlled, and overtones sound clearly defined.
How much do the Martin Super D-18 and Super HD-28 cost?
The Martin Super D-18 costs €3,899 at Thomann*. The more elaborately crafted Super HD-28 is priced at €5,159*. Both models are available now and come with a matching case.
If you’re eyeing up a Martin but have a slightly smaller budget, you should take a closer look at the new Road Series.
