Blackstar ID:X: New Generation of DSP Modeling Amps
Blackstar ID:X 50-watt and 100-watt models
Blackstar Amplification has announced the release of its new ID:X series of advanced DSP modelling amplifiers, designed to offer guitarists intuitive control, powerful tone, and flexible connectivity.
Blackstar ID:X
The Blackstar ID:X Series is available in both 50-watt and 100-watt models.
According to Blackstar, they aim to challenge existing market leaders by providing a streamlined user experience combined with enhanced sound quality and versatility.
DSP Modeling Amps
DSP modeling amplifiers are pretty common in 2025, so this new series needs to stand out from the crowd. As DSP modeling amp models, including the Boss Katana and Positive Grid Spark 2, are already super popular with guitarists.
Blackstar has a solid reputation in this area with their ID:Series, Silverline, and AMPED amplifier lines. If they can streamline the user interface and make the tones realistic, then this new ID:X line could be a winner.
OLED
The ID:X series introduces a discreet, user-friendly OLED display. This display offers instant visual feedback and deep access for editing settings and effects, eliminating the need for extensive menu-diving or external devices.
Both amps feature what are described as ‘six carefully crafted voices‘ that range from pristine cleans to Blackstar’s signature high-gain tones. These voices are shaped by a powerful four-band EQ section, which includes Blackstar’s patented ISF (Infinite Shape Feature), allowing players to precisely sculpt their sound.
I’m guessing anyone familiar with Blackstar’s sound will have a good idea of what to expect, and the new DSP update should, in theory, make these even better.
FX
Over 35 effects are included, covering overdrives, distortions, modulation, delays, and reverbs. Each effect is fully editable directly from the amplifier using simple, real-time encoders, making it easy for guitarists to dial in tones and switch between different effect types and parameters on the fly.
CabRig
ID:X also incorporates Blackstar’s latest IR-based CabRig technology. This technology offers powerful speaker and microphone simulation and introduces In The Room technology, which aims to replicate the experience of playing next to an amplifier, rather than the more studio-focused tones of traditional impulse responses.
Players can also choose between EL84, EL34, and 6L6 valve responses to fine-tune the amp’s dynamic feel.
Patches
Players can create and store up to 99 patches, which can be easily recalled via the front panel or using compatible FS-12 or FS-18 footswitches. The amps are fully integrated with Blackstar’s Architect software, providing deep editing capabilities, patch management, and access to a growing online community for sharing and downloading patches.
Connectivity
With a comprehensive suite of modern connections, including balanced XLR out (100-watt model only), USB-C for recording, a 1⁄4-inch line out, headphone output, MIDI in and thru (100-watt model only), and an auxiliary input, the ID:X is equipped for a variety of scenarios, from silent practice and studio sessions to live performances.
Selectable power modes, including a 1-watt option for quiet playing, make the ID:X suitable for both late-night inspiration and stage use.
Verdict
On paper, ID:X has many features that modern guitarists can benefit from. I can see Blackstar selling lots of these, as the price point is very reasonable for what they offer. Blackstar knows how to build great-sounding amps, so these are certainly ones to check out if you need something flexible with plenty of power for live and studio work.
We will update you as soon as they are available on Thomann.
