JHS NOTADÜMBLË: Build Your Own Double Dumble
Get the Sound of Santana and John Mayer - in a DIY pedal!
The next one for Josh Scott! The mastermind behind JHS had been teasing a successor to the extremely successful NOTAKLÖN over the past few days. Now, the JHS NOTADÜMBLË is here. The principle remains the same: you get a complete pedal kit without any soldering.
JHS NOTADÜMBLË: Take a Walk Through the Dumble door
When the NOTAKLÖN hit the market in November 2023, the kits for assembling a Klon clone sold like hotcakes. No soldering skills needed, no risk of injury, well-written instructions—the guitar world loved it!

After the Klon, one of, if not THE holy grail of overdrive pedals, JHS has now taken on the sound of the legendary Dumble amps with not just one channel, but two: clean and overdrive.
The former is supposedly based on a Dumble Small Special. This hard-to-find, hilariously expensive boutique amp made its appearance in recent years when John Mayer played with The Dead, half hidden behind a small red curtain. In overdrive mode, the pedal is based on another Dumble amp, likely an Overdrive Special, as played and revered by Santana, Joe Bonamassa, Eric Johnson, and many, many others.
Two Channels, One Goop, Endless Dumble Sounds
The JHS NOTADÜMBLË package includes IKEA-style assembly instructions, the white metal housing, the five knobs, the circuit board, and all necessary cables and screws. As a tongue-in-cheek “for added realism,” a tube of Goop is also included.

This black glue has a long tradition among pedal and amp manufacturers. Quite a few used it to glue and obscure the circuits in their products to deter copycats. And now, the Goop is also available for the JHS NOTADÜMBLË for that genuine Dumble feel.

When the pedal is built, it offers five controls, three for the drive channel and two for the clean channel. You can switch between the two channels using the small black switch labeled “Channel.” On the clean channel, the input and output levels can be adjusted, while on the overdrive channel, the additional EQ control provides a low-pass filter as a third control for attenuating high frequencies.
How Much Does The JHS NOTADÜMBLË Cost?
Not to forget the tiny presence control, which you can only use directly on the circuit board to boost the treble in the input signal. The kit is available directly from JHS for 106.95 euros, plus 19.95 euros shipping, for a total of 126.90 euros.
If you love the Dumble overdrive sound but aren’t keen on tinkering, there is a whole range of ready-made models to choose from. Universal Audio, for example, offers the UAFX Enigmatic ’82 Overdrive, an excellent-sounding pedal version. Also worth mentioning are the Wampler Euphoria and the elegant Lovepedal Hermida Zendrive.
