JHS NOTAKLÖN

JHS’ NOTAKLÖN is an all-in-one kit that requires no soldering or tools. Priced at a mere $99 this pedal kit has already sold like proverbial hotcakes. The packaging, instructions, and overall design make this kit look like something you could pick up in IKEA. Thankfully, it requires very little skill to put together and zero electronics knowledge.

Golden Ticket

Apparently, one of the first 1000 pedals sold had the chance of receiving a Golden Ticket inside the packaging and the lucky winner who found the ticket would be eligible for $1500 towards any JHS Pedals order.

Does this make Josh Scott the Willy Wonka of the guitar effects world?

Modified Klon Circuit

It also features the popular Shamrock Mod Switch that makes this Klon-clone a little more versatile than the original circuit design. Users can activate this switch to increase the overall gain by +4dB, providing extra boost capabilities with heightened mid frequencies and an additional stage of hard-edge clipping.

Apart from this modification, it stays pretty true to the original Klon design, though at $99 it is a whole lot cheaper.

It has the standard controls for Output, Treble, and Gain that you would expect from a Klon. The Gain offers +16dB of clean boost. The pedal requires a 9V power supply and also internally converts 9V to 18V for more headroom.

Goop

It also comes with a tube of Goop which mimics the original ’90s and 2000s glooped circuit board of the original Klon Centaur pedals. It is very tongue-in-cheek and more there as a gimmick, but if you get the joke then you will appreciate the inclusion of the Goop.

Sold Out

Apparently, JHS Pedals sold the first 3000 out overnight and the pedal kit has now moved to a pre-order, with delivery expected in early 2024. This just goes to show how popular the Klon-style overdrive is, and how people are willing to have a go at building their own.

MSRP – USD 99

Like it or not JHS is the no.1 in effective marketing of pedals. Just the idea of a DIY kit and then make it look like IKEA. Other companies would be like noooo cant do that. They just do it. And sell too where others have a hard time at the moment. Amazing, really.
