W.A. Production Dodge Pro: multi-band ducking on a budget
W.A. Production has released Dodge Pro, a plug-in that lets you draw and automate the volume envelope of an audio track. Dodge Pro can be used for sidechain ducking, trance gates and all sorts of other timed volume effects. It’s currently on sale for under $10, so grab it while it lasts.

Dodge Pro is a versatile tool for modulating a track’s volume. You can use it to emulate the classic sidechain compressor ducking effect, with more control over the shape of the curve than a compressor would give you. The plug-in can also be used as a gate for chopping up pads and other synth sounds, or for any other rhythmic volume modulation you can think of. It’s a similar concept like Duck, Gatekeeper or the volume portion of Cableguys Shaperbox, for example. But it does have a couple of unique tricks up its sleeve.
Dodge Pro allows you to define your own curve or select and modify one of the many templates. The audio waveform is displayed underneath as a guide. There is no limit as to how complex the automation curve can be, so you can come up with some pretty wild modulations if you wish. There’s also a random feature, in case you’re feeling lucky.
Multi-band effects
What’s very interesting is Dodge Pro’s multi-band feature. You can specify different volume curves for three frequency bands. The crossover frequencies are adjustable, and the bands can have independent volume, shape, sync, length and mix settings. That’s a really cool feature and goes beyond what some other volume modulating plug-ins offer. With multi-band processing, you can make just the bass frequencies pump, apply a trance gate to the mids only, and achieve other unique effects.
Dodge Pro is also a performance effect, offering MIDI-switchable scenes. You can assign different scenes to custom MIDI triggers, and switch between scenes remotely and on the fly. That’s another very cool idea, especially for live performers.
Price and compatibility
Arguably the best thing about Dodge Pro is the price, at least until the introductory offer ends on March 22, 2020. If you grab it before then, the plug-in costs only USD 8.17 at Plugin Boutique*. After that, the price will go up to USD 27.20.
W.A. Production Dodge Pro runs on Windows 7 or higher and macOS 10.11 or higher. It comes in VST, AU and AAX formats (32/64 bit).
