The VoicAs Audio DESKROVER is an analogue multiband overdrive processor in a neat desktop/pedal format with digital recall for added precision.
The DESKROVER joins the DESKPRESSOR, which was unveiled at Superbooth last year, with the promise that both units will be ready for production later this year.
VoicAs Audio DESKROVER
The DESKROVER offers three bands of stereo overdrive processing with variable crossover points, so you can target specific areas of a signal, which could be a synth part, drum loop, or your entire mix. Each band gives you the choice between three flavours of clipping, including LED, FET, and Zener, each with its own harmonic profile.
With the drive control on each band, you can choose how much dirt and destruction you want to add, while the mix control lets you blend the dry signal in alongside. Also, you can solo and mute each band to hear exactly how each part of the frequency range is being affected, and then adjust each volume level for balance.
The central LED display gives you a visual overview of where the three bands are sitting, and you can assign the four buttons below to your frequently used functions to suit your workflow. With the ability to control parameters digitally, DESKROVER becomes a unique tool that can shape sounds over time through modulation or automation.
Overall, taking a performance-based approach to multiband saturation is a novel concept that electronic musicians will certainly find interesting. If sales are good, I hope they take this concept into a 19-inch rackmount unit, as this would certainly be a welcome addition to any professional mixing setup.
