UDO Audio Super 8 Voice Upgrade: Take Your 8 From 16 to 20 Voices
From 16 voices to 20 voices.

[7 May 2025] A new hardware upgrade can up your UDO Audio Super 8 voice count from 16 to 20 – that’s the same as the Super Gemini! New firmware for those two synths, too.

UDO Audio Super 8 Voice Upgrade
Owners of the UDO Audio Super 8, take note. The company is on its way to Berlin for Superbooth25 and dropped the announcement that it has a new expansion board ready for preorder. The hardware upgrade will increase your synth’s voice count from 16 to an impressive 20 – that’s the same as the Super Gemini. When in binaural mode, that’ll be 10 voices.

UDO promises that you can install the board yourself with no soldering or special equipment, “simply plug and play right out of the box.”
UDO Audio Super 8 and Super Gemini Firmware Update 1.32
To make sure that your Super 8 recognizes the new board, you’ll need to update your synth to firmware version 1.32. This applies to the Super Gemini, too, although there’s no expansion board for that one since you already have the 20 voices. Along with support for the voice upgrade, version 1.32 offers improvements such as reduced latency between MIDI clock and audio output, predictable panning in dual mode, and more.
The Super 8 Voice Upgrade Kit is available now to preorder from UDO. It costs $217 / £160 / €191.95 and will ship in June 2025. Get the new firmware download from the UDO Audio homepage.

UDO Audio Super 8
[May 16, 2024] Superbooth24 has just started and it’s already turning out to be the synthesizer event of the century. Kicking the show off is UDO Audio with a brand new instrument, Super 8.
Positioned between the Super 6 and flagship Super Gemini, it’s a 16-voice binaural stereo analogue hybrid polysynth (say that three times fast!) with all of the bells and whistles you would expect from the series. Dual layer, it has independent effects per layer.
UDO is saying it has the same sound and analogue hybrid feel as the Super 6 and Gemini.
Playability and Performance
UDO wanted to make something a little more portable than the Gemini but still with the same kind of power. Focusing on playability and performance, it has a polyphonic aftertouch keyboard – in fact, the same one as the Gemini.
Future Upgrades
According to the Sonicstate video (below), UDO Audio may eventually do a 20-voice upgrade for it.
Supertouch 49
Speaking of upgrades, UDO also have a limited edition poly aftertouch keyboard upgrade coming for Super 6 owners called Supertouch 49. You can do the upgrade yourself, apparently, it having only one connector.
That will be around £400 including VAT, and will debut on June 3 along with a software upgrade.
