Tracktion Waveform Pro 12 has arrived and the developer says that it’s the biggest update the DAW software has received in a decade. The new version comes with a plethora of new features for a more intuitive and faster workflow. But that’s not all: Waveform Pro 12 also includes a new, efficient audio engine and a bunch of new plug-ins.

To begin with, Tracktion Waveform Pro 12 includes several GUI refinements designed to speed up your workflow. The most obvious one is probably the new Smart Browser, which provides easy access to plug-ins, presets, racks, samples, clips, tracks, and other objects. You can also now tag and color-code your favorite items, and preview and consolidate project items in Smart Lists.

If you like to customize your DAW’s appearance, you’ll be pleased to hear that the color editor has returned and now offers light and dark modes. New unified actions and properties panels take up less space on screen and both the Arrange and Mix windows now feature a dedicated master track.

BassOSC

But there are many updates under the hood, as well. The new BassOSC instrument takes care of all your sub bass cravings. No less than 15 of Waveform’s audio effects have been refreshed. Waveform Pro 12 also comes with six new utility plug-ins and a new low-latency guitar IR loader for cabinet modeling.

MIDI editing has also become easier thanks to new features like MIDI fold and a new knife tool. There’s a new event list editor and a new drum grid mode, which is an alternative to piano roll editing for drum tracks. New randomization functions for things like velocity, pitch, timing and note length and new Step Clip and MIDI Strum features help to bring variety to your tracks.

Tracktion has also worked on the underlying audio engine, saying that the newly designed engine uses the CPU much more efficiently. This frees up resources for new audio features such as podcast and dialogue editing tools.

Price and compatibility

Tracktion Waveform Pro 12 runs on macOS, Windows and Linux. The basic version starts at USD 149, and there’s a couple of different content bundles you can add on. You can find the various bundles and upgrades here.
