TC Electronic has just released a pretty tasty update to the firmare for the PLETHORA X5 multi-effect, taking the version number to 1.2. The update adds the Helix Phaser and Viscous Vibe effects as well as a load of useful features for existing owners. The new firmware promises to make TC’s platform an even better proposition than before.
PLETHORA X5 1.2 firmware update
This new 1.2 firmware update for the PLETHORA X5 multi-effects pedal brings a load of new useful stuff for players along with two new effect algorithms to the system. The update gives you access to the Helix Phaser and the Viscous Vibe, enriching the X5’s offering in the area of modulation effects. And the Viscous Vibe uses TC’s MASH footswitch technology to give you some nice ramp controls.
Along with the two new modulation effects comes Tape Deck Looper, a new RAM-based looper that allows you to record and playback up to 80 seconds in mono and 40 seconds in stereo. It’s a lovely little upgrade that makes the X5 more versatile for many players. TC has also squeezed in 9 new cabinet simulations, too, is always useful.
Another new feature is Hot Knobz, letting you assign three black knobs to control any of your effects parameters simultaneously for real-time control as you’re playing. The MIDI CC control set has also been expanded set, so you can control the unit from external devices with assignable MIDI channels and a CC mapping chart. Last up is the optional dual footswitch controls to cycle through your virtual boards quicker. That should make working with the system a bit more fluid, and make things easier to navigate when playing live. All in all, this free firmware update gives existing users nice set of new features to play with.
