Studio Electronics CODE Luxe Now With Screaming MS-20 Filter
Studio Electronics debuted the MS-20 version of its eight-voice analog Code Luxe aspirational synth at Buchla & Friends 2026. What a beauty!

Buchla & Friends is always a great time, and a chance to see some amazing synthesizers, both experimental and aspirational. It’s the latter category that really impressed at the event in 2025, with Studio Electronics’ lush CODE Luxe making our Lasse’s list of the best of show. California’s finest analog synth company was back this year with an updated version of the Code Luxe, now sporting their just-finished MS-20 filter board.

In case you hadn’t heard, Studio Electronics’ Code Luxe is an evolution of the company’s CODE 8 with an added wavefolder and a programmable and modulatable feedback circuit. As SE is wont to do, the luxurious Luxe has all sorts of famous filter circuits inside – or installable, depending on how ridiculous you want to get. For example, the standard version features two filters, the Minimoog Ladder (naturally, as SE got its start hot rodding Minis) and SEM. There’s also a four-filter version, which includes the Mini and Obie plus an 8106 (the Roland Jupiter/Juno filter) and CS-80.
Given that the CODE Luxe is a very expensive item, Studio Electronics is open to customizations. The website states, “Additional filters are available for a user customizable configuration, i.e., 303, 2600, and upcoming MS-20!”
Well, that last one is upcoming no more. It’s finally here. According to an Instagram post from last November, SE has completed its emulation of the famous MS-20 filter.
“After way too many many hours of frustration and aggravation,” the post says, “we are now happy with the results and performance of this filter: our high standards have been met, so we now welcome this gem into to the SE filter family. The signal is inverted unlike our other filters, so the feedback is negative, but still quite expressive: at high levels it throws out some serious low end smash.”

That brings us to Buchla & Friends. Studio Electronics was on hand with a very fetching green and yellow CODE Luxe featuring that very same new MS-20 filter. It’s too bad this colorway isn’t standard, though. Based on various Facebook and Instagram posts, it appears to be from a custom order. It would be amazing if it became available for general purchase. I suppose you could just custom-order one with the same specs, though.
Note that there also appears to be a new MS20 model Boomstar on display. It hasn’t made it to the website yet, though; we’ll have more on that when we know.

If you’ve decided that you just have to have one of these new MS-20 Luxes, head over to the SE site and custom order one. Just be ready to pay: the 2 Filter Version is $8795, and the 4 Filter Version is $10595.
