Last July, Metallica’s Kirk Hammett announced that he was going to be working with Gibson on a new line of signature model guitars. Well, he has just shared images of himself playing a purple Gibson Flying V via his Instagram account. Does that mean we will be seeing a signature model soon?
Gibson Kirk Hammett Flying V?
We know for sure that Kirk Hammett is officially working with Gibson on new signature model guitars, and now that these images have surfaced on both Kirk’s own Instagram , as well as on Metallica photographer Jeff Yeager‘s account, it would look like there may be a purple Gibson Kirk Hammett Flying V signature model arriving sometime soon.
Some Kind of Purple Monster?
The pictures of Kirk playing the very purple guitar show its colour and layout quite clearly. There are more shots of him using it live on December 19 at the Chase Center in San Francisco. These have also just appeared on Yeager’s Instagram account.
Kirk has had purple guitars before, with both his ESP LTD KH-602 and his ESP LTD KH Ouija signature guitar available in a Purple Sparkle finish. So it isn’t a huge leap to suggest that his new Gibson signature model could also come in purple, or at least as an option.
Gibson Hammett V?
At this point, a Gibson Kirk Hammett Flying V signature model is practically a given. The original teaser Gibson put out used archival footage of Kirk playing his original Black 1979 Flying V, which was reissued by the Gibson Custom Shop for a limited run back in 2012. I’m expecting a Flying V, and I suspect it could well be purple.
