The Kirk Hammett Greeny Les Paul has now officially been revealed and is the latest Collectors Edition of the fabled guitar. A guitar owned by three very famous guitarists and with plenty of well-documented history.

This Gibson Collectors Edition Kirk Hammett Greeny Les Paul is based on the 1959 Les Paul Standard once owned by Peter Green and Gary Moore. The guitar now resides with Metallica’s Kirk Hammett, after he purchased it from the previous UK owner.

Greeny

As I mentioned above, previously this guitar was owned by Peter Green, who played it throughout his time with Fleetwood Mac and later sold it to Gary Moore, who used it for three decades with Thin Lizzy and then as a solo artist. It has always been known as Greeny since Peter Green was the original owner.

USA Only

Due to the Brazilian rosewood fretboard, this new recreation will only be available in the United States. Only 50 models will be hand-made by the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville. I would, therefore, expect the price of these highly limited-run guitars to skyrocket in the years to come.

Scanned

Gibson has scanned the original Greeny and colour matched the finish as well, so it should look and feel exactly like the guitar that Kirk Hammett owns. This replica, also means it has things like modern-day Sperzel tuners.

Guitar Specifications

  • 2-Piece figured maple top
  • Single ply cream binding, top and fretboard
  • ABR-1 Bridge

If you want to go this route, then apply online from the link below.

They are out on 12 November 2022 and you have to ring up Gibson for the price. With many interested parties in the USA reporting, it costs $50,000!

MSRP – TBC (supposedly $50k)

There’s an actual market for $50K replicas? And an expectation that $50K replicas will appreciate in value after boomers have…moved on? Probably a really nice guitar, anyway.

I would guess that the market for 50 close copies with an official Gibson stamp of approval will appeal to some people. It does nothing for me, but I am not the target audience for a replica guitar like these. They will all end up ‘case queens’ and never get played anyway. I’d rather buy a guitar and play it to death. I wonder if they will also simulate the two headstock breaks that Greeny has had in its lifetime.

Gibson should be a shame for releasing this guitar. It was already released in 2010 as collectors Choice #1 Greeny as a limited edition. Now being re released at 45k more expensive. Gibson, all the respect I had for you as a brand is gone.

Not the first time they do this. The same happened with the Slash Signature Goldtop in 2008. Now they released the Victoria Goldtop

Yeah what a shame “ shows Gibson desperate for sales you don’t see Chevy replicate the 59 Chevy

Haven’t Gibson issued this guitar before as the Melvyn Franks CC#1 model? Is this another money grabbing idea to make a guitar that will hang on an accountant’s wall?
