The Softube Bus Processor 670 brings the classic Fairchild sound into the DAW environment with modern enhancements that make it versatile.
You’ve probably heard of the Fairchild, the tube limiter famously used by The Rolling Stones for getting the glued-together warm sound we love on psychedelic tracks like She’s A Rainbow. Apart from using 20 vacuum tubes, the key to the Fairchild design was the six set time constants with a choice of fast or medium attack times and a range of release times, including two program-dependent settings.

Softube’s new Bus Processor 670 plugin brings this classic vari-mu compressor to your DAW with a range of features that can be used in today’s production workflows for any style of music. Besides the basic threshold and gain controls, the Bus Processor 670 sets itself apart by dividing the processing into three sections, each with individual bypass switches.
For adjusting the sound character, the compressor section has classic and modern modes, with a calibration control that lets you dial between clean and worn circuitry emulations. Meanwhile, there is a knee character control, a switch to link the controls across the two channels, and a mid-side processing switch.
The compressor also provides internal and external sidechain processing, with a wet/dry mix control, a sidechain stereo link, a sidechain low-cut filter, and a sidechain tone shift control, which is ideal for de-essing applications. Then, with the spatializer, you can add high-frequency gloss with the AIR control, adjust the stereo width, or use the mono filter to direct low-end content centrally.
The saturation stage also has a wet/dry mix control, which provides a great deal of precision, and you can adjust the transformer and tube stages, as well as the overall tone of the circuit. All in all, the Bus Processor 670 is a great character compressor plugin with extensive features that let you dial in all the vibe you need for a specific track.
