Sinevibes Skew: forward-thinking backwards audio plug-in
Known for its experimental and extremely clever plug-ins, developer Sinevibes released Skew – a tool for inverting audio signals. It makes your audio and instrument tracks play backwards, but in real-time. It’s a bit different from just flipping a track backwards (and possibly hearing some occult nonsense). Like all Sinevibes plug-ins, Skew makes interesting and unusual sounds which are difficult to get elsewhere.

Skew by Sinevibes is an effects plug-in which plays audio signals backwards in real-time. It syncs up with your DAW’s host tempo and processes incoming audio exactly in time. The output is loaded into a buffer and reaches the FX section. What’s more, your sound is always adapted to the song tempo by the intelligent warp algorithm.
To fine-tune the effect, there are several parameters at your disposal, such as buffer size, curve type, effect intensity, crossfade and output volume. Additionally, the tool shows you the waveform of the output audio. Sinevibes plug-ins have plenty of colorful, but understated eye candy like that.
As each parameter has an ‘extremely wide’ range for adjustment, Skew can be used in many ways. The plug-in can generate several rhythmically-precise effects such as reversing, tape rewind, pitch slides, detune, glitching, and scratching. It can also be automated or manipulated in real-time to add build-ups, breaks, and transitions. The controls’ fine calibration, responsiveness, and DJ-style crossfader lend plenty of automation and live performance possibilities.

Sinevibes Skew is available from the developer’s website for USD 29 (excluding sales tax). The plug-in works under macOS 10.9 and Windows 8.1 or later in 64-bit AU, AAX and VST3 formats. You can download a demo version and a PDF user manual from the website as well.
