If you’re looking for an easy way to record podcasts, capture demo ideas at home or to record your rehearsals, then the Shure MOTIV system might be for you. MOTIV, although I’m not exactly sure what it stands for, is a collection of digital condenser microphones and an interface for mobile iOS devices and Macs. Many of us own an iPhone or an iPad, so this is a cost effective and portable method to record on-the-go. Shure have just updated the accompanying mobile app to version 2.0, bringing some powerful and efficient improvements.
The MOTIV product range from Shure is their answer to recording with mobile devices. With a selection of condenser microphones and a digital interface available, these products are designed for direct plug-and-play audio capture. There are mics for stereo field recordings, vocal performances or podcast-style broadcast work, all with an emphasis on portability and speed of use.
The app on the device is of course responsible for capturing your recordings, managing your files and now editing and sharing them too. Therefore, updates like these are important to maintain an efficient workflow and to realise the full potential of recording onto a tablet. The update is reported to include new editing features and an improved user interface that offers more accurate metering and easier file playback.
This looks like a great update to a basic but convenient app, which should hold the position of this product range amongst the vast competition. If you already own an Apple mobile device, then I believe the power that apps like this offer, will out-way the reasons to purchase a separate hand-held recorder.
If you’d like to learn more about the MOTIV product range, then head over to the Shure webpage. For more information about the current mobile app and all of its features, visit the MOTIV mobile app webpage.
If you already own a MOTIV product and would like to upgrade to the latest version, check out the app in the App store.
Here is a YouTube video released last year giving an overview of the MOTIV collection, taken from the Shure EMEA channel. It obviously doesn’t provide any info regarding this update, but provides a good introduction to this product range for potential new buyers.
