The Ruark Audio MR1 Mk3 is the latest iteration of the popular Bluetooth bookshelf speakers, now equipped with USB and a Phono preamp.
If you haven’t met the MR1s, the previous Mk2 edition was introduced back in 2017. These speakers caught on pretty rapidly among modern music appreciators because of their sound quality and convenient operation. Ruark Audio has also done limited edition versions of the MR1 with renowned German electronic music producer Martin Buttrich and the British fashion brand Fred Perry.

When you have a product that has seen any kind of success, changing its look is inadvisable for the most part. So instead, Ruark Audio has focussed on the sound quality and connectivity features, to make you more likely to have a pair of MR1s in your home than ever.
While the previous model was equipped with 75mm polypropylene cone neodymium woofers powered by a 20W Class AB amplifier, the new Mk3 features 85mm treated natural fibre woofers and a dual 25W Class D amplification system. This means more power, punch, and sonic depth, not only for modern music, but for music of any era.
As far as connectivity goes, the MR1 system can run wirelessly with its aptX HD Bluetooth system or link the speakers with the included cable. Where the previous model had a dedicated TOSLINK digital optical port, the Mk3 now features a combination stereo mini jack input for analogue and optical 24-bit 192 kHz PCM signals.
What’s more, there is a 24-bit 96 kHz USB port and even a phono input for turntables, including a grounding connector. This allows you to switch between monitoring your mobile device, gaming audio, and enjoying your vinyl collection easily with the included remote.
It’s unclear yet whether the optional BackPack battery pack is compatible with the new Mk3 model. However, it’s more than likely that Ruark Audio is currently developing a new version designed to meet the specifications of the Mk3. Overall, this update to the MR1 makes them an even more exciting prospect.
