The first piece of news we’ve had from the newly rebranded Reason Studios is to introduce Scenic. It’s described as a cinematic hybrid instrument for tension, suspense, relief and joy.
Scenic is one of the new instruments to be included in the Suite edition of Reason 11 which is due for release on the 25th September. The Suite bundle will include more than 75 instruments, effects and utilities.
Behind the rather lovely dial-based interface that’s vaguely reminiscent of those public shaming scale machines you’d find at chemists and stations, lies two sample-based sound engines. They can deal with samples in the regular way or granulate them to within a grain of their existence. The grains can be manipulated in all sorts of ways giving it an eery sound that’s ideal for that cinematic vibe.
The results are pretty intriguing:
Scenic comes with a library of over 100 multi-sampled instruments and sound effects. It has a filter suite, an advanced modulation matrix, five effects processors and a set of LFO and pulse generators. You can play with the dials on the front or get deeper into crafting your soundtrack. Sounds like a load of fun!
Scenic will be available separately as a Rack Extension for Reason for $99.
