Birds of a Feather
This limited-run PRS Private Stock 30th Anniversary “Birds of a Feather” Hollowbody I model makes
a great visual impression, especially if you love a bit of bling. The luminous “Frostbite Glow” finish unifies the instrument’s design and highlights the strong contrast between the deep, dark Gabon ebony and the natural tones of the flamed maple.
Frostbite Glow
The signature Frostbite stain extends not only across the body, but also to the figured maple fretboard and neck. A lot of work has gone into creating these Private Stock models, and it shows. The devil is in the details, and these guitars have so much attention to detail that they scream high-end build.
The Details
Even details like the truss rod cover and headstock veneer are finished in the same color and wood scheme. The result is an instrument that looks luxurious and harmonious from every angle. I cannot imagine how many hours of work went into each of these guitars, but they are pretty special.
TCI
For this special edition, Paul Miles (Director of Manufacturing) at PRS really went all out, equipping the guitars with a range of exclusive features. The choice of pickups is one of these features. The PRS TCI pickups were used here for the first time on a hollowbody.
The TCI pickups were developed with a special focus on musical balance and clarity. They deliver what you expect from humbuckers: fullness and punch. And they also retain the open, expressive response more commonly associated with single-coil or soapbar designs.
Especially in combination with the hollowbody construction, here made of select swamp ash, this results in a versatile sound that offers warmth and transparency, as PRS describes. It looks stunning, and so it should sound as good, if not better.
