Stereo enhancement plugins are common tools for mixing today as producers and engineers explore every corner of the stereo field. However, many of these aren’t without their drawbacks, such as a loss of focus, or mono compatibility issues. Then there’s the question: what can you do to spread a mono source? Often within a mix you’ll have an element that’s crying out to be spread in the stereo field, either as an effect or to create space. There are a host of tricks you can employ, some of which can be quite time consuming, and then you’re left with the same concerns over a lack of focus or mono compatibility. Plugin Boutique seem to have provided an all-in-one solution with this new plugin that looks very well thought out.

It seems Plugin Boutique have set themselves the goal to simplify stereo enhancement tricks by providing a range of stereo tools in one plugin. They say StereoSavage does this via “tried and tested studio techniques with emulations of modern and classic tools”. It enables you to generate stereo audio from a mono source with Vox, Delay and Expand algorithms. Parameters such as Width, Pan and Rotation are available for moving sounds about the stereo field. Most notably however, clever integration of de-tuning, chorus effects and LFO modulation seem to provide many results, suitable for a wide range different sources & scenarios, from vocals to EDM bass lines. I particularly appreciate the Bass Bypass filter in the modulation section, which retains bass frequencies from being spread.

StereoSavage is available for PC and Mac in 32/64-bit VST/AU/AAX formats for 59.95 GBP.

I can’t wait to try this plugin. If it really can produce the results it describes, and without concerns over a lack of focus or mono compatibility, then this could be plugin of the month!
