Solar Guitars has just added a bunch of new 6- and 7-string bolt-on models to its existing catalogue. The guitars include all the good stuff one has come to expect from this young brand, but for the first time ever, with bolt-on necks. Read on to find out what Ola Englund’s company has been up to.

YouTuber Ola Englund’s Solar Guitars has an ever-expanding roster of modern high-performance guitars, with something available at every price point. However, this is the first time the company has added bolt-on models to its catalogue since its launch in 2017. The new models come with roasted maple necks and fretboards, Floyd Rose or EverTune bridges, and Duncan Solar pickups.

The new bolt-on necks use a 5-bolt design for strong tone transference and extra rigidity, and have been added to the regular Type A and Type S series as new Type AB and Type SB models. For example, the AB1.6FRN model has a swamp ash body, three-piece modern C profile roasted maple bolt-on neck, a roasted maple fretboard with 24 stainless steel frets, and glow-in-the-dark Luminlay side dots.

The bridge is a locking Floyd Rose 1000, and pickups are a pair of Duncan Solar HH wired to single volume and tone controls via a three-way blade switch. The guitar is available in a Natural Brown Matte finish, which in my opinion suits this model really well.

On the other hand, if you prefer a hardtail, there’s the slightly cheaper AB1.6HTPB, which has a Hipshot USA bridge and comes in a Red Purple Burst Matte finish, for €100 less.

RRP – EUR 949 and EUR 849

7-Strings

Solar Guitars has garnered a bit of a reputation for its 7-string instruments, so it’s nice to see bolt-on versions of these models available as well. The AB1.7C seven-string guitars all have bolt-on necks paired to alder bodies, EverTune bridges, and come in a Carbon matte black finish.

Or, if a hardtail isn’t your thing, there’s also the SB1.7FRFM which has a Floyd Rose locking trem system instead, and a mahogany body with a flame maple veneer in a Flame Natural matte finish.

RRP – AB1.7C and SB1.7FRFM EUR 1099

Bolt-On

Bolt-on neck joints provide an added snap to the tone and feel of a guitar, and I’m sure many players will appreciate this design finally being available on Solar Guitars. There are quite a few models to choose from, and you can check them out by clicking the link below.
