Okko FX is a German pedal manufacturer with quite a reputation for their overdrive pedals. Gregor Hilden is a pretty well known German blues player, runs the GregsGuitars YouTube channel and deals in used guitars. The two have got together and released this smooth new overdrive pedal for 2017.

Mr Smooth

It’s a bit of a running joke in ‘guitar circles’ that everything Gregor plays on his GregsGuitars YouTube channel sounds the same, more that he plays the same smooth blues guitar licks and can make any guitar sound good! Gregor was one of the first players to buy an Okko Diablo back when they started out some 10 plus years ago. He’s famous for continually using this pedal on his YouTube channel to demonstrate the plethora of sweet-looking vintage and modern guitars that he has for sale. Now you can buy a signature version labelled with his initials and cop some of his super smooth tones.

Overdrive

It’s quite complex for an overdrive pedal and has an added boost as well. There is a three-position mini-switch that lets you set the level for the input, in turn allowing you to dial in the optimum sensitivity depending on the output of your guitar’s pickups. There is a Mids control which unsurprisingly adds more or less mid frequencies to the Tone control, plus you get the regular Gain and Volume controls as well.

There’s also a Dynamic control labelled Dyn which sets the internal voltage of the pedal from 6 through to 18 volts, therefore giving you more or less headroom for the guitar signal. A nice touch, this, and one that will make a big difference on either how tight and punchy or less compressed your sound is. Next up is the Feed control which allows more or less low frequencies to be fed into the signal, whilst still keeping everything tight. The Body control is used for mid frequencies and differs from a regular Diablo pedal, as it adds low mids in the first gain stage, which Okko say can be used for thick, singing lead sounds.

Check out the videos below of the Gregor in action with his new signature pedal and of course go check out his GregsGuitars YouTube channel to hear some super smooth blues licks and lust at some nice vintage guitars as well.
