Mystery Islands Music is about to release an editor for the Novation Nova Desktop and Nova II Keyboard hardware synthesizers. There will be a separate one called SNX for the Supernova but that’s not quite ready yet. For now, it’s all about the regular Nova.

NovaX

It’s a VST and AU plug-in that runs right inside your DAW and gives you access to all sorts of parameters and possibilities that were tricky to get to on the front panel. It also saves all your edits and tweaks in with your project so your Nova is ready as soon as you load the project. You’ll also be able to load in UltraNova and MiniNova patches which is quite neat.

What you get is a lovely clear view of your Nova synthesizer. All 6 parts are accessible on the left, with quick knobs, and then the right-hand side shows the oscillators and associated parameters. You can get to the filters, envelopes, LFO and modulation matrix pages via the tabs at the top. Everything is automatable from your DAW within the plug-in bringing a whole new lease of life to your synthesising.

The Patch/Librarian page gives a single page view of all the available programs. They can be saved, loaded and edited without having to write them to the RAM of the synth.

NovaX will be available at the end of July and you can preorder now for a special price of £26.17. There’s also a demo you can download and try out before you buy.
