Nomad Factory Drum Tools Plug-In  ·  Source: dontcrack.com

Announced on DontCrack.com is a new plugin by Nomad Factory. This new release follows the unfortunate death of Bernie Torelli from Nomad Factory in January, who unfortunately didn’t have time to finish ‘Drum Tools’. Thankfully, the team of developers managed to see it through to completion. It’s so new, that the plugin isn’t even featured on their own site yet!

I love modular-style plugins, as they offer you so much inside one user interface. Often job-specific plugins such as these drum processing tools sound great and speed up the mixing process considerably. I haven’t tried this plugin yet, but I can’t think of anything quite like it. Yes, there are several modular-style processing tools around, but they tend to be general purpose. There are also drum-focused processing tools available, but they tend not to offer so much control. Offering both was clearly a goal of Bernie’s, drawing on a life’s worth of experience in the audio effects realm.

It appears the concept of this plugin is to offer all the tools you would need when processing each individual drum. Select buttons on the left of the user interface guide you with a starting point for the settings of each type of drum, whilst there’s a lot of control still available for the user. It incorporates many of Nomad Factory’s effects such as: Gate, Expander, Compressor, Convolution Reverb, High Pass and Low Pass Filters. In addition there is plenty of ‘colour’ available too, via discretely modeled transistors as well as tape- and tube-type algorithms which I’m keen to hear.

Being a fan of recording and mixing live drums, this looks like a great product I’m going to have to try. A special introductory offer exists until 31st March 2016 of 49 USD, whereafter the list price will rise to 149 USD. Drum Tools is available for Mac and Windows in AAX, AU and VST formats.

This seems very much like Nomad’s trackbox vst.
