A new MusicMan model called the Mariposa has been spotted at the UK Guitar Show over the weekend – according to MusicMan staff, the new model is coming soon. In fact, we hear from other sources that it’s going to be available in November. And this thing is going to have some cracking specs, too…
Pictures of the new guitar appeared over on the Ernie Ball /MusicMan forum in a thread entitled MusicMan Mariposa. The site itself also gets an ‘unofficial’ mention from MusicMan stating that it is real and an official teaser photo, alluding to the model without giving too much away.
Luckily, someone called Barny over on the Ernie Ball forum posted these three pictures below. It look similar to the Albert Lee model in that it is quite angular in construction.
Luckily for us Thomann also has the model listed, and although the page has no photos it does list some specs. They include a mahogany body, a roasted maple neck and a fretboard made from ebony loaded with 22 stainless steel frets. You can see the photos above show pearloid inlays, too. The scale length is 648 mm and the nut is 42 mm wide. The pickups: two custom wound MusicMan humbuckers, each with a volume control. The feature set is rounded out with Schaller m6-ing locking tuners and a MusicMan tremolo system. A hard case is included.
Musicman have also release a photo teaser for this model. There is discussion on a few forums that is could be a signature model for Omar Rodriguez-Lopez of At The Drive-In, Mars Volta. He is also left handed, so a left-handed signature model in the teaser would make sense.
It looks on paper to have the kind of high-end hardware and specifications we’d expect from MusicMan. The Thomann listing states a price EUR 3799, so we have a good idea of the price as well.
