The RIME plugin is available for all major DAW systems across Mac and Windows platforms, designed for use on your main mix bus. Through the conversion of multichannel audio formats to binaural audio, RIME preserves surround and height data, allowing you to monitor accurately in Dolby Atmos format with headphones.

The RIME environment is modelled using a specially built studio completely equipped with Neumann gear. This includes the KH series immersive monitor system with subwoofers custom-tuned by acoustics experts, with a KU 100 binaural mic to accurately capture the 3D sound environment.

More Information

Rather than presenting the user with multiple sound environments to choose from, the idea was to create a single reference-quality space that can be trusted for accurate reproduction. The only drawback, if any, is that the RIME system is designed exclusively for use with Neumann headphones.

In addition, OSC-compatible head-tracking devices are supported, so you can get the most realistic and intuitive monitoring experience possible. What’s more, RIME can also be used as a stereo headphone monitoring tool that replicates the experience of studio monitors. This means that you can check your mixes with confidence across all formats, using nothing more than headphones.

Overall, the RIME system is an impressive tool for convenient immersive mixing developed by one of the most trusted names in audio. However, although the software itself costs less than $100, there will still be those who balk at the price of Neumann’s NDH series headphones.

Pricing and Availability:

The Neumann RIME plugin is available directly from Neumann for $99.95. Get it here.

Immersive audio is the new standard. Streaming services favor content that can be enjoyed in spatial audio formats such as Dolby Atmos or Sony 360 Reality. More and more DAWs now offer immersive audio capabilities, and engineers, producers, and musicians alike are eager to explore these new possibilities. Reliable monitoring is essential for this. With RIME, we’re offering an integrated solution that meets these evolving needs, providing a more cost-effective and mobile alternative to loudspeaker-based monitoring solutions. Our NDH headphones have the same carefully balanced sound as our studio KH studio monitors, making it easy to switch between the two. With RIME, this unique benefit extends to immersive monitoring as well.
