Ernie Ball Music Man has announced the new Kaizen 7-string Tosin Abasi signature. A completely new multi-scale double-cutaway design with a trem system. Revealed at NAMM 2022 as the first of his two upcoming models. Kaizen, a Japanese word meaning continuous improvement over time is the name for this new 7-string and it will be followed by a 6 string model after.

Update 11/16/2022: Now it’s here, the Music Man Kaizen, which was announced in June. Built for modern players and was strongly influenced by the innovative guitarist Tosin Abasi. It’s not cheap, but there’s a lot of detailed work in the design. It is available in two colours, Apollo Black and Spectraflare. However, the latter is limited to only 75 pieces worldwide and almost sold out. What do you think of the model?

Kaizen

The new EBMM Kaizen features an alder body, roasted maple neck and ebony fingerboard. The 7-string model launches at NAMM, whilst we will have to wait until 2023 to see the 6-string version. This new collaboration with Tosin Abasi is an interesting one, as he already runs his own guitar company Abasi Concepts. Though it has to be said that the Animals As Leaders guitarist is a pretty shrewd businessman and so I can see why he chose to work with such a well-respected brand as EBMM. This multi-scale design measures from 24.75” at the high E to 25.5” at the low E.

Infinity Radius Neck

This multi-scale guitar features some unique new choices, these include the Infinity Radius Neck and a multi-scale tremolo with spring dampeners to help eliminate those unwanted overtones.

“So the fingerboard is actually a bit thicker on the treble side than it is on the bass side. You get this minor little tilt towards your vision field. So there’s a lot of little details like that.  – Tosin Abasi

The body has no flat surfaces and is a completely new design. It also comes fitted with the new 2022 EBMM heat-treated pickups. The guitar has a custom heat-treated humbucker in the bridge position, paired with a slanted mini-humbucker in the neck position. To finish off the look Tosin has chosen a set of the Steinberger Gearless locking tuners for this model as well. The Kaizen will be also offered in multiple finishes.

High Performance & Style

Overall, I suspect these new Kaizen models will play really nicely, as Tosin Abasi is very particular about his guitar design, as well as his aesthetics. Therefore, it will not just be a fancy-looking instrument, but also a very practical one as well. I would suggest you check out the official video below to hear all about it.

I thought the Steinberger tuners were out of production. Have they started manufacturing them again?
