Abasi Concepts is the company run by guitarist Tosin Abasi that’s had, shall we say, a bit of a difficult start. I reported about the new Larada models during Winter NAMM, but now the firm has released some official specifications and pricing.

After the Frank Falbo incident nearly brought the company to its knees, Abasi Concepts seems to have recovered and is back with official details and pricing for the eagerly awaited new Larada design. Three models are being offered initially, each one hand built and with around a three-month waiting list.

Larada 8, Larada 6 and Space T are all variations on the Larada concept, with the Space T being a Telecaster-inspired variation. They all look pretty similar, but you get the option of 6 or 8 string models on the regular Larada design.

Larada 8 and 6

The Larada 8 has eight individual string saddles, a multi-scale and has fanned stainless steel frets. It also comes loaded with Fishman Fluence Tosin Abasi Signature Pickups wired via a 5-way switch. The neck is a 16” – 21.5” compound radius and has a Graphtech nut and Hipshot Griplock tuners.

With the  Larada 6, you get the same specifications except for a floating bridge instead of individual string saddles. Its a 6-string rather than an 8-string design. Currently, there are no official photos of this model yet.

Space T

To me, the Space T is the one that stands out most. It looks like a Telecaster that was designed by an abstract artist and been modernised. It isn’t unpleasant to the eye and has all the right things you would associate with a Tele, just with Tosin’s modern-day specifications. Again you get stainless steel frets, just this time it is standard 25.5″ scale length, 10” – 14” compound radius neck and regular frets. No fanned, multi-scale stuff here.

It uses a Wilkinson three barrel T-Style bridge and Hipshot Vintage tuners and has Fishman Greg Koch signature pickups, which are active and have a  dual voice mode. These are wired via a three-way switching, with a single volume and tone control. You can hear these pickups in action on Greg’s own Reverend Signature model here.

John Mayer

Tosin posted a vid of John Mayer playing one of his new designs on his Instagram account, so you can see that these guitars aren’t just for modern playing styles. Mr Mayer makes that 8-string sound pretty good in the clip below.

RRP – Larada 8 USD 2399, Space T USD 2469 and Larada 6 USD 2399
