This new MXR Eric Gales signature Raw Dawg overdrive pedal is the perfect companion for you blues players. As you’d expect, this is designed to give you plenty of growl and bite when required. The pedal hasn’t officially been released yet, but it is showing up on MXR dealer sites like Thomann. Let’s take a closer look at what this puppy has on offer!
MXR Eric Gales signature Raw Dawg
Eric Gales is famous for his raw blues tone, and when we heard that he was working with MXR on a new signature Raw Dawg overdrive pedal, we were hoping for great things from this stompbox. The overdrive circuit has been tweaked to Gale’s preferences and you can expect a more balanced mid range and more gain to suit his playing style.
It has the classic Output, Tone and Drive knobs you’d expect from an overdrive pedal. This should be a breeze to dial in, as nobody wants to fight with their overdrive pedal to make it sound good. As yet, there are no official audio demos for this, so we will have to wait and see if this dawg has bite, or is happier sat curled up in front of the fire. I reckon it should have plenty of bark (ok, that’s enough with the dog references, Ed.) as Eric Gales has some sweet tones, so I’m expecting an extension of this here.
Because it’s in a mini-pedal format, it will be easy enough to squeeze one of these Raw Dawgs onto most pedalboard rigs without having to buy a bigger kennel (really? Ed.). I’m looking forward to hearing this puppy in action (you did that one earlier. Ed.)
If you have been living under a rock for the last few years and haven’t heard Eric do his thing, then check out his playing in the Dunlop Sessions video below.
