MESA sound
Despite its very compact design, the Subway+ Bass DI-Preamp II packs a lot of sound. The integrated J-FET preamplifier with an extended frequency range works well with both active and passive basses and serves as the foundation for high-end performance.
As you can see, the manufacturer has managed to fit many controls and switches onto the pedal. Independent controls for Gain, Boost, and Master Volume allow for a wide range of sounds.
The spectrum ranges from warm, rounded, clean tones to subtle to medium drive that cuts through the mix well. The boost can be engaged via footswitch and has its own level control, making it particularly versatile for solos, choruses, or louder passages.
Voicing controls and 4-band Baxandall EQ
In the upper left corner, you’ll find a variable voicing control. It changes the pedal’s overall character from a more modern, flat response to a vintage-inspired sound. Several frequency ranges are intelligently adjusted with just one control.

For even more detailed sound shaping, a fully active 4-band Baxandall EQ is also available. This allows for very musical and precise shaping of bass, midrange, and treble.
A Deep switch provides more fullness and weight in the low-frequency range, the Bright switch delivers additional presence, bite, and brilliance, and a variable Hi-Pass filter ensures that very low frequencies that cost headroom can be eliminated.
A practical mute button for noiseless tuning and an adjustable boost make the pedal very suitable for stage use.
