Could this be an April Fool’s hoax or an actual product preview? Introducing the Dyson Zone headphones with integrated air purification. Dyson, the vacuum-cleaner manufacturer, has been developing the Zone headset for the past six years and we can now bear witness to the first prototype. Featuring three levels of ANC and a folding air purification mouthpiece, could this be the future of portable music listening?

The development of the Dyson Zone headset

This battle-ready Zone headset is the first of its kind, naturally. According to Dyson, the model we are looking at had around five hundred prototypes developed to reach the current design. Starting back in 2016, Dyson has used their expertise as one of the leading manufacturers of household air purifiers. The Zone is a step away from here, into the world of personal audio with a considerable twist.

The Dyson Zone’s features:

Originally, the Zone’s air purification system was not completely integrated. The user would be required to store the device in a backpack of sorts. However, this glitch was ironed out over the many product development cycles. With the design, the aim was to position the mouthpiece as close to the face as possible. Furthermore, for hygiene factors, this apparatus features contactless operation. A dual-compressor system feeds air into filters from either side of the earpieces. With this system, the risk of allergens and pollutants is reduced considerably, as the filtered air is channeled to the mouthpiece for respiration.

Even the headphone stand for the Dyson Zone features a revolutionary design. Dyson was inspired by the shape of a horse’s saddle initially. In addition, the headset has a specialized app for providing the user with data about the surrounding air quality in your current region and the flow of clean air you’re experiencing with the Zone. The three ANC modes include Isolation, Conversation, and Transparency. Each has features specific to the user’s needs in a different situation and environment. Not much more is known about the electronic specs and price, but we should see the Zone headphones by Autumn 2022.
