The Mad Professor has been busy tinkering around on his workshop again, this time on an update to his Electric Blue Chorus. Version II takes the original – now discontinued – pedal into a new direction, adding a shed load of functions. The sound quality, as expected, is as high as ever; this box has some fantastic modulation effects on board. V2 should be a great fit for players looking love sweet, organic analogue chorus and vibrato tones in one pedal.

Taking its visual cues from the first Electric Blue, V2 adds one more control knob but retains the simple, clear layout. The available controls are: Depth, Speed, Mix and Tone, plus a mini-toggle for switching between chorus and vibrato. Immediately, I’m drawn to this. This is my kind of modulation pedal! Everything is labelled clearly and there are no silly or confusing names for the parameters. What you see is what you get.

Chorus & Vibrato

According to the website, the chorus effect will go from slow and subtle all the way through to rotating speaker type modulation. But this pedal is voiced very much in the vintage zone. V2 adds a dedicated vibrato circuit to the original Electric Blue Chorus, and was designed from scratch rather than tacked on. There’s a wealth of pulsating options on offer here – check out the official demo video below. The Mas Professor describes it as having an extended vocabulary, which sounds interesting. Presumably that might help you find settings to stand out in a busy mix, especially when you dial some drive into your amp.

Simple & Effective

Overall, I’m pretty impressed with the video. I could easily see myself utilising pedal like this in my own rig. The demo has some sweet, classic tones; it sounds organic and very natural. That’s exactly what I’m looking for in a pedal of this type. This new Mad Professor Amplification Electric Blue II Chorus Vibrato is due out in April 2021. Keep your eyes peeled once they start to hit dealers.
