A while ago, Line 6 resurrected its classic Echo Farm effect in the form of AAX Native plug-in. The guitar gear company is now making Echo Farm 3.0 available in VST and AU formats as well, opening up the classic virtual echo for virtually all DAW users.

While full backward compatibility is still reserved for ProTools users, Echo Farm 3.0 brings 64-bit native performance and sample rate support of up to 192kHz.

Everything else is as expected. Echo Farm 3.0 offers 12 models of echo units, both vintage ones and original Line 6 creations. The models are based on units such as Roland RE-101 Space Echo, Boss DM-2, Electro-Harmonix Memory Man, TC Electronic 2290, and Maestro Echoplexes.

The plug-in allows control over tape wow and flutter, filter-swept modulation, bit resolution, and other parameters such as drive and repeats. There’s also the Time Ramp feature which allows for realistic pitch-smear effects when adjusting delay times.

Overall, a great release and a respectable nod towards an older era of virtual effects. The price, though, is another matter. Line 6 is selling Echo Farm 3.0 for USD 199. While the price is reasonable considering there are 12 echo flavors to choose among, it’s definitely not going to be an option for everyone at that price.
