It’s been called many illustrious names so far, including ‘the MacBook killer’. The Dell XPS 13 Plus is one of the most highly rated Windows laptops released this year. We caught our first glimpse of it at CES 2022 and after a lengthy wait, it’s finally available for order.
What’s so special about the Dell XPS 13 Plus?
You’d never usually consider the design aesthetics of a Dell laptop, but here we are. The XPS 13 Plus is ultrathin and clean as ever but it’s really been built differently this time. The invisible trackpad, glass keyboard deck, and the Touchbar-esque row of capacitive buttons all contribute to its overall elegance.
However, this machine isn’t all about looks. Equipped with Intel’s new 12th-Gen P-series chips, the 13 Plus has twice the performance capabilities of last year’s model. This makes it a very desirable choice as a lightweight studio workstation, and there are enough configurable options to meet your needs.
The display for starters has one standard and three different touch screen options. Meanwhile, under the hood, you have up to 32 GB LPDDR5 RAM available and up to 2TB of SSD storage. On the connectivity side, it maintains the hyper-minimal theme with only one Thunderbolt 4 (USB Type-C) port on either side. This means you will need expansion, including the 3.5mm headphone adaptor which ships in June.
The XPS 13 Plus comes with Windows 11 Home, but there is also a Developer edition with Ubuntu 20.14 preloaded. All in all, the Dell engineers have done their research and come up with a win for non-Apple users. This laptop offers impressive performance in a very compact and lightweight package, and at just over $1200 it’s hard to say no.
